JUBA – A senior army commander has turned down what he calls a disappointing appointment as gubernatorial security advisor in the newly formed revitalized transitional government of Warrap state.
General Garang Mabil told Sudans Post on Thursday evening that he turned down the appointment because he was not told about the kind of the position that he was going to be appointed into.
“Yes what you have saw somewhere is true. In fact, they had consulted me, but they didn’t tell me which position I was going to take and as such I turned that position down because it is a disappointing appointment,” he said in an interview without explaining what he means by “disappointing appointment”.
“It is not about the position, but when someone is appointed, that person is always consulted and told that he will be appointed into a certain position such that he don’t get surprise when he is appointed into a position he didn’t expect. Here, I am surprised,” he added.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit has in recent days been appointing government officials for the country’s ten states as part of a commitment under the revitalized peace agreement.
The president has now formed state governments for Unity, Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Central Equatoria, Western Equatoria and Jonglei. He is expected to appoint government officials for the remaining states in the next two days.
