BOR, MAY 21, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – A South Sudan civil society activist is slamming the government for demanding apology from American presidential candidate Nikki Haley over her corruption remarks against the country.
In a statement on his Twitter handle, Bol Deng Bol, Chairperson of Jonglei State Civil Society Network (JCSN) and Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan said the country is indeed corrupt and that the ongoing currency depreciation is a making of corruption.
“If South Sudan does not want to be mentioned among the most corrupt nations on earth, why not work towards it,” he asked.
“The apparent dramatic depreciation of SSP against USD has rampant CORRUPTION as the major factor. Respect is not merely demanded. It’s earned,” he added.
Speaking in an interview on the Fox News on Wednesday, Haley who last served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said there was need for the FBI to be held accountable for what she referred to as “Russia Hoax” or else there is no different from corrupt South Sudan and the United States.
“Congress has a job to do, and that is to make sure people are fired and every senior manager over those people gets fired,” she said.
“If not, what makes us any different [from] South Sudan or Democratic Republic of Congo. This kind of corruption happens in those third world countries. It should never happen in America,” she added.
In reaction, South Sudan embassy in Washington said Haley’s remarks were “appalling” and “erroneous.”
“Even though the 2013 civil war in South Sudan weakened institutions, the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGONU) had taken steps to hold perpetrators who committed crimes accountable,” it said.
What make us different from third world countries of South Sudan and Dr. Congo in term of corruption, the statement was delivered by presidential candidate Nikki Haley in United States of America, the statement that annoyed the current government of South Sudan. But what I know is that Russian meddling on passed election of USA when Donald Trump elected as US president with it corruption image should not be compared with one of Sudan South, reason being the money is monitored by these people who are accusing South Sudan. Yes, there is high Ccorruption in South Sudan that shouldn’t be tolerated because it need a credible thinking on how to minimize it, until we get the way out as we established an institution that is free from corruption. The point am making here my friend is that, you have seen America how it fall into bankrupt of some well known banking institutions, while they are first world nation and we here in African continent, fall under third world country, as we remain case study to them. What Nikki Haley did was referring South Sudan and Dr. Congo as they most corrupt countries at which he is trying to advice American not to fall under that category, otherwise they will look like an African State. The point of dollar hiking in South Sudan is an issue to do with lack of resources being manufactured locally in South Sudan, for example right now South Sudan your country has no national projects like agriculture and other schemes that can reduce rocketing of prices in the local market of South Sudan at your country import from outside the country. I want to concludes that, let us fight corruption through law and whether the upcoming election will be free and fair such that we elects a leader that put Sudan South into right path.
