JUBA, MAY 21, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s activist Edmund Yakani has said that recent protest by the government of Sudan against the visit of the envoy of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo is bad for resolution of conflict peacefully.

The Sudanese ministry of foreign affairs on Wednesday issued a statement protesting the welcoming of RSF leader’s political advisor and envoy Youssef Ezzat to Juba and his subsequent meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

In a statement this morning, Yakani who is the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) said the communication to the government of South Sudan from Sudan is an indication that the army is ready for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“The observed recent communication from Al-Burhan to President Salva Kiir over the meeting between President Kiir and Hemedti’s envoy in Juba is not good if Al-Burhan believes on settlement of political differences through political mediation,” he said.

“South Sudan leadership has been tasked by IGAD where Al-Burhan is the sitting chairperson to mediate their Sudanese political crisis. South Sudan leadership as mediator has to reach out to every principal of the warring parties in Sudan,” he stressed.

CEPO said  it is “afraid that Sudan may fall into hands of the culture of state and government ruling through the gun classes. Already clear sign of Sudan breaking into various gun class ruling is higher” and urged the two warring generals to “give peace chance.”
