
JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday oversaw the swearing-in of three appointees to the cabinet at an event at State House.
They include Dr. Wek Mamer, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs; Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Minister of General Education and Instruction; and Atong Kuol Manyang, Minister of Trade and Industry.
Addressing the new ministers, Kiir advised them to carry out the duties diligently at their various institutions.
“We have come to a stage where we should now establish a strong government to serve the people; go ahead with your work,” Kiir said in a statement issued by the Presidential Press Unit on Wednesday.
Kiir underlined the importance of putting in place a strong government that can effectively serve the people of South Sudan.
For his part, Kuol Manyang Juuk, Senior Presidential Advisor and father of Trade Minister Atong Kuol Manyang, urged the new officials to improve their ministries for the benefit of the country.
Meanwhile, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, Cabinet Affairs Minister, called for cooperation amongst government agencies in order to enable the government to achieve its objective.
The three ministers were appointed in a mini cabinet reshuffle on March 10, 2025.
Kiir named Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol, a former deputy cabinet minister who served before the civil war erupted in 2013, as the new Justice Minister.
Atong Kuol Manyang, daughter of Senior Presidential Adviser Gen. Kuol Manyang, was elevated from Deputy Governor of Jonglei State to Trade Minister.
Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, an author and academic who had overseen policy as the Education Ministry’s Undersecretary since 2019, was appointed as new education minister.
