BOR-Authorities in South Sudan’s Jonglei state said on Monday that 9 people were killed and 4 others sustained gunshot wounds in separate cattle-related attacks.

The incidents occurred in Dakriang, Motot Buma, Partet, Padiet, and Pamai villages of Uror County; Kuei Village of Ayod County; and Malieth-thoor of Bor County.

In a press release issued on Monday, Jonglei state minister for information, Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, said a mother and daughter were also abducted during cattle raiding in Ayod County.

“Murle armed criminals attacked Kuei village, which is 1 hour southwest of Ayod town, killed two women, and abducted one woman and her daughter in Ayod County.” Said Nyamar.

She said suspected Murle armed criminals raided 14 cows in Padiet Payam in Uror County during night hours on 8 January 2025.

Nyamar condemned the killing and called on the authorities of the Greater Pibor administrative area to bring the offenders to the book of law.

“The Government of Jonglei State condemns in the strongest terms possible the continuous attacks, killing, and abduction of the people of Jonglei State that are being carried out on a daily basis by Murle armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area,” she said.

“The Government of GPAA is urged to do all necessary means at its disposal to call back their youth from the areas of Jonglei State and bring back the abducted woman,” she further added.

She called on the GPAA government to recall the armed youth roaming in the areas of Jonglei state.

“Call back their armed youth, who are terrorizing and causing havoc in Jonglei state, to return to their areas in order to promote harmony and peaceful co-existence between the two neighboring states.”
