Anglican Church distributes food aid to vulnerable people in NBG

JUBA – The Anglican Church in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Ghazal State has provided food rations to 750 individuals identified as the most destitute to support their needs.

The distribution initiative began at three locations: Warkuac neighbourhood in Aweil Town, Akuem-kou and Adoor in Aweil East County. According to Pastor John Nhompal, the distribution started three days ago and is scheduled to conclude this week.

Nhompal explained that the food aid consists of 120 bags of wheat flour, 45 sacks of sorghum, 50 bags of lentils, and 12 jerrycans of cooking oil. He further noted that four individuals shared one bag of sorghum, while two individuals received one bag of wheat flour and one jerrycan of oil, respectively.

He emphasised the importance of supporting the needy during this challenging period, as hunger is severely impacting communities.

“The distribution will likely conclude on Friday, targeting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with disabilities. This effort aims to help their families survive, as hunger is particularly severe this year in the country,” he stated.

Pastor Nhompal shared that the distribution began in Aweil Town and continued in the other two locations, Adoor and Akuem, highlighting the church’s significant role in supporting vulnerable communities.

Adut Deng, a beneficiary in Akuem, expressed gratitude for the food aid provided by the Anglican Church.

“I am as joyful as others who received their rations. I hope they can extend this support to more vulnerable people who struggle to make ends meet. The church has done remarkable work,” Ms. Deng said appreciatively.

The Anglican Church has played a vital role in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, contributing to community development by constructing schools and health facilities in areas where their churches or denominations are established.
