In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Oyiti Yoanes Akol Ajawin, the Office clarified that Dr. Bol Mel has been in his office throughout the day, “diligently carrying out his official duties as usual.”
“The Office would like to assure the public that Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel has been in his office throughout the day, diligently carrying out his official duties as usual,” the statement read in part.
The clarification follows widespread social media reports alleging that the Vice President, who also chairs the government’s Economic Cluster, had been confined to his residence in Juba under the directive of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Paul Nang Majok.
The statement expressed appreciation for what it described as the “concern and goodwill” shown by citizens, international partners, and members of the diplomatic community who reached out to verify the claims.
According to the Office, Dr. Bol Mel remains focused on implementing President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s vision for “a prosperous and self-reliant South Sudan,” emphasizing that he continues to advance the national economic reform agenda, strengthen institutions, and ensure that public resources directly benefit citizens.
“As this transformative work gains momentum, it is anticipated that a few individuals driven by selfish interests will attempt to mislead the public and derail H.E. the President’s agenda of peace, unity, and an economy that works for all,” the statement added.
The Office urged the public to remain calm and united in supporting ongoing government efforts to consolidate peace and drive economic growth under President Kiir’s leadership.
It further noted that communication on matters of national importance will continue to be issued through the Office’s official social media platforms and the national broadcaster.
