Brazil appoints new Honorary Consul in South Sudan

JUBA —The Federative Republic of Brazil announced on Monday the appointment of a new honorary consul to South Sudan.

Mary Juan Lotua has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Federative Republic of Brazil in South Sudan.

Monday Semaya K. Kumba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for South Sudan, received the appointment letter for Ms. Mary Juan Lotua in Juba on Monday.

In his remarks, Minister Kumba extended warm greetings and best wishes to his esteemed counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

He also conveyed greetings from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to his counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Kumba expressed heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Lotua on her new appointment, emphasized “the significance of Brazil to South Sudan, and expressed a strong desire to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, investment, and cultural exchanges”.

For her part, Ms. Lotua expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the ministry for the honor of presenting her letter of appointment.

“And reiterated her commitment to nurturing and advancing the relations between the two countries.”

An honorary consul is an individual appointed by a foreign country to represent its interests in a specific region or city.

Their primary function includes promoting economic, cultural, and educational ties between their home country and the host country.
