JUBA — The Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS), Gloria Nyoka Joseph, resumed work on Thursday after a one-week suspension over alleged corruption and indiscipline.
Atong Kuol Manyang, Minister of Trade and Industry, last week suspended SSNBS boss Gloria Nyoka Joseph for alleged misappropriation of resources, unprocedural and divisive politics, and undermining the minister.
Minister Atong appointed Aldo Upiou Juady, Senior Director General, to act as interim Executive Director of SSNBS pending the completion of an investigation into Nyoka’s conduct.
Mr. Rout Doubol Duop, Director General for Administration and Finance of the National Bureau of Standards, said the executive director resumed duties on Thursday after the matter was resolved by the relevant authorities, referring to the incident as an “administrative issue.”
“The Administration of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) would like to notify all stakeholders and the public that Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph, the executive director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, has resumed her duties and functions with effect from 19th June 2025,” Doubol said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Upon her return, Nyoka is expected to play a significant role in ensuring quality and safety compliance throughout the country, as stated in the letter.
“SSNBS reiterates its commitment to continue executing its mandate in the protection of consumers, safeguarding the health and safety of all citizens and the national economy against substandard and counterfeit goods.”
“The administrative matter that arose on 13th June 2025 was resolved by the concerned authority of South Sudan.”
