JUBA – The leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has nominated his group’s secretary-general Mahjuob Biel Turuk for the governorship of Jonglei state, according to a statement seen by Sudans Post.

Last week, President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar agreed to allocate Jonglei state to the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) as also allocating six states to the SPLM-IG and three to the SPLM-IO.

The allocation of Jonglei state to SSOA, although some members of the Alliance rejected it, was welcomed by Dr. Lam who is also the secretary-general of the opposition consortium, and the group’s military chief, General Bapiny Manytuil Wijang.

In a statement this morning, Dr. Lam announced that his group has nominated Dr. Mahjuob stressing that NDM is one of three opposition groups in the SSOA that have not been represented in the R-TGoNU.

“All SSOA Leaders This is to confirm that the National Democratic Movement (NDM) has officially nominated its Secretary-General, Cle Mahjuob Biel Turuk, to the position of Governor of Jonglei State which is allocated to SSOA as per R-ARCSS,” Dr. Lam said in the statement.

“As you will recall only three organizations of SSOA have not been represented so far in RTGoNU. These are: NDM, SSLM and FDP.

“We hope that all of us will see that this will be where NDM could lead the contribution of SSOA and others in running this State.

“My special appeal is for the other two organizations to support NDM’s candidature.”
