Police investigator David Deng Dumo told Sudans Post that the deceased, identified as Yak Deng Aguer, had been working on the farm alongside two other men who have since been detained for questioning.
“Yak Deng Aguer was working with two suspects, identified as Ali Abubaker Ahmed and Aguer Athiang Angui. The deceased had an altercation with one of them on October 20, and a few days later, he was found dead,” said Dumo.
He explained that the body was discovered at the far end of the farm, which was covered with tall grass. “The two men we arrested claim they don’t know what caused his death. When I visited the scene, the body appeared to have been dragged and dumped at the edge of the field,” he added.
According to Dumo, initial investigations and witness accounts suggest that the deceased and the suspects had a dispute days before the incident.
“One of the neighbours confirmed to me that the three had fought on October 20. When we arrived at the scene, we found Yak lying face down with an empty jerrycan of siko (local brew) and a bottle of aragi nearby,” he said.
The police officer noted that this is the second such case reported in the area this month, where individuals were found dead under unclear circumstances and without anyone taking responsibility.
“This recurring pattern is worrying. It shows that insecurity is slowly creeping back, particularly in remote farming areas,” Dumo warned.
Local residents have since called on law enforcement agencies to increase patrols and strengthen community security to prevent further loss of life. The repeated cases of unexplained deaths have sparked fear among villagers, especially those living and working in isolated farmlands in Nyalath Payam and surrounding areas.
Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death and whether foul play was involved.
