AWEIL-A devastating fire engulfed Aweil town of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Wednesday night, leaving 9 residents homeless.

The blaze, which broke out around 9 p.m., destroyed three houses, forcing families to seek refuge in nearby homes.

Marcello Garang, the Payam administrator of Nyalath Payam in Aweil Center, told Sudans Post on Sunday that three homes in Cham-angui village were damaged by the fire.

“The residents were alarmed by the destruction caused as everything is gone during this crucial time of the New Year,” Garang added, adding that the fire reduced the three residences to ashes.

Garang disclosed that the fire burnt to ashes all three houses.

“The homesteads are farmland located in the bushy area of Aweil Center County, which is preferable for subsistence farming, so the owners are left without any property like dura (sorghum) as people were away at home,” he said.

According to him, all properties—including charcoal—that were ready for sale were destroyed by the fire outbreak.

“We urge the Good Samaritans to help them.” In particular, the national and international NGOs should come and help these homeless individuals,” he stated.

He urged the public to exercise caution this winter by examining the locations that are more susceptible to catch fire.
