Deputy police spokesperson Brigadier General Kwacijwok Dominic confirmed that the incident occurred on July 13, 2025, at General Warkozy’s home in the Gudele area of Juba. The trial, he said, concluded just weeks ago following court proceedings.
According to police accounts, a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the residence at approximately 8:00 p.m., opened fire, and fled the scene shortly afterwards. During the attack, General Warkozy sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg. His daughter and brother were also injured in the shooting.
At the time of the incident, Warkozy was serving as the Director of Research and Transformation in the South Sudan National Police Service. He and his injured family members were rushed to the hospital and later reported to be in stable condition.
In addition to the prison sentences, the court ordered the convicted individuals to pay compensation equivalent to the value of two firearms stolen from the general’s residence. Brig-Gen Dominic noted that the fines were imposed alongside the custodial sentences for those convicted.
“Those sentenced to 24 years were also fined an amount equivalent to the price of the two guns taken during the attack,” he said.
Authorities further revealed that most of the convicted individuals were members of the organized forces. They have since been dismissed from service, effectively barring them from future employment within the security sector.
“Most of the defendants were members of organized forces, and they were dismissed from service, so they will not be able to work again,” Dominic added.
Police say investigations into the case are ongoing, as at least three suspects linked to the attack remain at large. In total, nine individuals are believed to have been involved in the incident, though not all have been apprehended.
“There are about three or more suspects who have not yet been arrested, but the process is ongoing,” Dominic said.
Despite the severity of the attack, Brig-Gen Dominic noted that General Warkozy has expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, which brings partial closure to the case while efforts continue to track down the remaining suspects.
