BOR – Jonglei state is in mourning following the sudden death of its former commissioner, Deng Mabeny Kuot, whose demise sent shockwaves through the local community and Jonglei State, where he was a prominent figure.

Kuot died on the night of 18th May in Juba, South Sudan, after he was admitted to a clinic in Juba, where he was diagnosed with malaria and administered a full course of quinine injections.

He was later referred to Fidelity International Hospital for further diagnosis, where a scan revealed enlargement of his spleen, kidneys, and liver.

Kuot also had issues with swelling in his right lower limb, followed by blisters that became infected in February. He was referred to India for a liver transplant, but he was sent back after his health condition significantly deteriorated.

Kuot had served as the Commissioner of Twic East County for several years, navigating numerous challenges including inter-communal conflicts and the devastating impact of recent flooding.

He was often seen engaging directly with communities, advocating for their needs, and working to foster peace and stability in the region.

Commissioner Kuot was known for his dedication to the development and well-being of Twic East County, and his leadership will be deeply missed.

“Kuot has today left us, to the community of Twic east, Jonglei state and the entire South Sudan, we are informing you that Deng is not with us again” a brother confirmed his death.

State officials have expressed condolences to the family and the people of Twic East. The Governor of Jonglei State is expected to issue a statement later today.

The passing of Commissioner Kuot leaves a leadership vacuum in Twic East at a critical time. Discussions regarding the succession are expected to begin in the coming days, as the county seeks to maintain stability and continue its development efforts.

Funeral arrangements for the late commissioner will be announced in due course. The community remembers him for his service, commitment, and unwavering dedication to the people of Twic East County.

The passing of Mr Mabeny is expected to be felt by the residents of Twic East County and the wider Jonglei State administration. Condolences have begun to emerge from various local leaders and community members.
