JUBA-South Sudan’s Governor of Central Equatoria State, Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo, on Tuesday urged youth in the state to desist from being used as agents of political violence by politicians.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Juba, Governor Jadalla cautioned young people against being used like what he called ‘firewood’ by politicians for political violence.

“I urge the youth to change their mindset not to be used like firewood by politicians to fight themselves and destroy their villages,” Jadalla said in his New Year message.

He urged the young people to embrace sports, and other activities to foster peaceful coexistence among themselves.

“Instead, the youth should unite themselves to focus on positive activities, for instance, education, sports, and the arts, to prepare to choose their leaders with charity of mind during the upcoming general elections in December 2026,” he said.

He underscored the importance of consolidating peace in order to end bloodshed in the country.

“We need to consolidate all our efforts to denounce and bring to an end bloodshed, fight against hunger, and fight against climate change threats that increase the risks for natural disasters like floods that we gravely suffered from and destructions of our physical infrastructure and environment.”

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improve service delivery.

“We therefore need to strengthen our healthcare services, education systems, waste management processes, road rehabilitations, water deliveries, and spontaneous refugee returns.”

He revealed that they will revive cooperative societies to address poverty among women and young people in the state.

”As state government, we have plans to revive cooperative societies and also facilitate private sector participation in social, economic, and development,” he said.

“I therefore urge youth and women, because they constitute the majority of our country, to play a great role in entrepreneurship to improve the livelihood of both rural and urban populations.”
