LEER — Unity State Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang has called for peace and reconciliation during a visit to Leer County, the hometown of suspended First Vice President Dr Riek Machar.

Engaging with local communities, Mr Manytuil urged residents to prioritise stability and coexistence amid ongoing political and security challenges in parts of the country.

Manytuil’s visit included meetings with community leaders, youth representatives, and elders, where discussions focused on strengthening peace efforts and discouraging violence.

“My visit to Leer County carries a message of peace. Peace is the foundation upon which development is built,” Manytuil said on his Facebook page during his Leer County trip on Tuesday.

He emphasised the importance of unity among communities in the area, saying lasting development could only be achieved in an environment of peace and cooperation.

“Without peace, it is impossible to provide quality education, construct roads, establish hospitals, and deliver essential services to our people.”

While addressing residents, he said his visit to Leer County was intended to carry a message of peace, stressing that peace is the foundation upon which development is built.

“Without peace, it is impossible to provide quality education, construct roads, establish hospitals, and deliver essential services to our people,” he said.

“We must always put BENTIU FIRST as a common interest and unity among ourselves.”

Manytuil urged the residents of Leer County to shun violence and embrace peace for the overall development and progress of the county.

“We must reject violence and ensure that our communities never again suffer the loss of innocent lives through senseless conflicts,” he said.

He called upon the people of Leer and Mayiandit counties to continue living together in peace and harmony.

“As neighboring communities with shared histories and common culture, your unity is vital for lasting stability and progress,” he said.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting the people of Leer County in terms of humanitarian assistance and security.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that food supplies and other essential commodities reach local communities to ease hardship and improve the well-being of our citizens.”

Community members reportedly welcomed the visit and expressed concerns about security, livelihoods, and access to basic services.

Leaders also highlighted the need for continued government engagement to address local grievances.

The governor’s visit comes at a time when authorities continue to promote reconciliation initiatives in conflict-affected regions, with emphasis on reducing tensions and fostering dialogue among communities.
