The summit will be held virtually on Wednesday, 12th March 2025, the regional bloc said in a statement issued this afternoon.
“The Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) presents its compliments to the ministries of Foreign Affairs of IGAD member states and has the honor to inform the latter that H.E. Ismael Omar Guelleh, the President of the Republic of Djibouti and chair of IGAD, has instructed the secretariat to convene the 43rd extraordinary summit of the IGAD,” it said.
IGAD, as the guarantor of the Revitalised Agreement (R-ARCSS), remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting dialogue, de-escalating tensions, and securing a peaceful future for the people of South Sudan.
Clashes erupted in mid-February between the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces and armed civilian groups in the country’s Nasir County.
Tensions escalated after the government announced plans to deploy new forces to Nasir County to rotate troops stationed in the area for several years.
The SSPDF commander, Major General Majur Dak, and 30 of his soldiers were killed during a United Nations evacuation operation in Nasir.
