JUBA – South Sudan’s Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Aleu Ayieny Aleu, has presented a memorandum to the Council of Ministers proposing the amalgamation of key law enforcement agencies into a single Unified Police Force.
The proposal, discussed during a regular cabinet meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday, aims to integrate the police, prison service, civil defence, and wildlife forces under a coordinated structure to improve efficiency, command, and professionalism within the security sector.
In a statement shared by the Presidential Press Unit, the Deputy Minister of Information, Hon. David Yau Yau, said that the proposed reform will soon be submitted to the National Legislative Assembly for deliberation and ratification.
He stated that the Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to building a disciplined, professional, and well-equipped police service capable of effectively fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
It was also noted that the Council reviewed and approved a Memorandum of Understanding presented by the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec, on the Livestock Development Policy and Strategic Plan (2026–2030).
According to the statement, the policy is designed to modernise and regulate the livestock and fisheries sectors, positioning them as key drivers of national economic growth.
“The government underscored that the initiative will promote commercialisation, strengthen value chains, and support sustainable livelihoods, reaffirming South Sudan’s potential as a leading regional hub in livestock and fisheries” it said.
