AWEIL — The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has handed over newly constructed health and education facilities funded by the World Bank to authorities in Aweil South County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, in an effort to improve access to essential services for local communities.
The two renovated primary schools are expected to improve access to quality education, while the newly constructed PHCU is expected to expand access to essential healthcare services for local communities.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday, IRC field manager in the Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, Mr. Manga Bernard, said the project forms part of the organization’s efforts to support vulnerable communities and improve access to essential services.
“It is a very important day for the IRC to hand over the two primary schools and a PHCU to Aweil South County and the communities of Nyieth payam to benefit from the IRC World Bank Project,” Bernard said.
Barnard also thanked the engineering team for successfully implementing the project, acknowledging that the task was challenging and demanding.
“I want to thank the engineering team, our donor, the World Bank, and the National Ministry of Finance for giving us this golden opportunity to implement the ECRP II project from the World Bank.”
For his part, Aweil South County Commissioner Luka Thel Thel thanked the IRC and other humanitarian organizations operating in the state for supporting the implementation of projects that strengthen community resilience across the state.
“The rehabilitation and renovation of two schools that had fallen into disrepair over the years will restore them to full functionality, alongside the newly constructed Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) in Nyieth Payam,” Thel said.
The handover ceremony marks a renewed sense of hope for improved service delivery in Aweil South County, with the facilities expected to expand access to education and healthcare for local communities.
