JUBA – The South Sudan government, in partnership with the Israeli charity organization, Save a Child’s Heart, has launched a week-long medical campaign in Juba aimed at screening and treating children with heart complications.
Speaking during launch of a campaign in Juba on Monday, Gershon Kedar, Israeli Ambassador to South Sudan, stated that this is the third visit of the Save a Child’s Heart delegation to Juba to treat children with critical heart complications.
“This time we are targeting over 200 children. Since I arrived here, I have been considering various ways to support South Sudan, whether through technology, capacity building, or health. This is one of the ways we can stand with the people of South Sudan,” Kedar said.
Clement Maring Samuel, Acting Minister of Health, described the initiative as “a significant milestone’ in their efforts to safeguard the health and future of children.
“This week, a team of distinguished cardiologists from Israel will conduct screenings for 200 children suffering from heart conditions—an act of compassion and medical excellence that warrants our highest commendation,” he said.
He to extended his ministry’s sincere gratitude to Save a Child’s Heart Organization, as well as the Government and people of Israel for campaign to treat children with heart complications.
“Your commitment to our children’s welfare is a strong reminder that humanity transcends borders. They are not alone. They are seen, they are valued, they are rescued, they are saved, and today marks a new beginning filled with hope and healing.”
The Save a Child’s Heart screening clinic for children with heart problems is underway at Al Sabah Hospital.
The clinic will run until Thursday, with more than 250 children expected to be screened. Those found suitable for surgical intervention will be taken to Israel for life-saving heart operations.
