JUBA – Juba County Commissioner Kalisto Lado Faustino Nyigilo has warned land grabbers to surrender illegally occupied land or face enforcement, following a dispute over construction of a perimeter fence at Don Bosco St. Vincent in Rajaf Payam, Central Equatoria State.
The church administration raised security concerns after individuals suspected of land grabbing allegedly attempted to obstruct construction of the fence around the vocational training school, according to a statement from the commissioner’s office on Thursday.
During a visit to the institution, Nyigilo assured the church administration that the county government would support efforts to address the security concerns and allow construction to proceed without interference, the office said.
The commissioner also called on people occupying public spaces to vacate them and urged traders operating along roadsides to move to designated markets.
Addressing residents of Gumbo, Nyigilo said he would focus on organising business activities and addressing land-grabbing concerns after dealing with similar issues at Kuburi Haboba.
He warned those involved in land grabbing to “cease such activities and surrender any illegally occupied land before enforcement measures are taken,” according to the statement.
Nyigilo also said public spaces should serve all South Sudanese, regardless of their community background, and called for unity and peaceful coexistence.
The commissioner’s office did not identify those accused of obstructing construction at the school.
