The new board was appointed by presidential decree on September 7, 2026, according to an announcement issued by the NBS on Wednesday.
Dr. Dier Tong Ngor, former finance minister, has been appointed Chairperson of the Board, alongside eight other members and one ex-officio member.
The board members are Angelo Ugwaag Wod Arun, Gatwech Koak Nyuon, Nyantiop Martha Agoot, Paulo Debor Landit Dieng, Abugo Charles Joseph Abate, Professor Venansio Tombe Muludiang, Merekaje Lorna Nanjia, and Ocum Genes Karlo.
Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai will serve as an executive officer member of the board.
The newly constituted board is mandated to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and guidance to the Bureau while ensuring that it operates with integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
It is also expected to support the production of reliable statistical data to inform evidence-based policymaking and contribute to national development.

The appointment comes as South Sudan continues efforts to strengthen its national statistical system and improve the availability and reliability of data needed for planning, policymaking, and development programs.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is South Sudan’s official institution responsible for producing, coordinating, and disseminating statistics used for government planning, policymaking, and development.
Its roots date back to 1994, when the Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Association established a Database and Monitoring Unit to track humanitarian assistance and food security in areas controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.
The unit later contributed to an early-warning system that helped predict the 1998 famine in Bahr el Ghazal
