JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday directed the newly appointed Governor of Central Equatoria State, Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, to improve security and foster peace in the state.
Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel was appointed on Monday evening after Kiir relieved Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani from the position.
Speaking after the new governor took the oath in Juba on Wednesday, Kiir instructed the governor to uphold integrity, fairness, and a strong commitment to national unity.
“The president urged him to work closely with security agencies to ensure peace and stability across Central Equatoria, especially in the capital, Juba,” a statement from the Office of the President said.
Kiir also tasked Governor Mujung with the responsibility of ensuring the equitable distribution of land to meet the needs of Juba’s rapidly growing population.
“He emphasized the importance of allocating land for residential development, investment, and government infrastructure.”
Kiir warned against the ongoing issue of land grabbing, stating that the practice continues to fuel division among communities.
“He also cautioned against ethnic divisions, calling on South Sudanese to embrace one another in the collective effort to build a peaceful and cohesive nation.”
He directed the state government to prioritize the rehabilitation of Juba’s poor road network, noting that quality infrastructure is essential to development and effective service delivery.
For his part, Governor Mujung expressed his readiness to implement the President’s key policy directives to ensure peace and prosperity in Central Equatoria.
“This service goes hand in hand with the duty of our parliament to promote unity and social cooperation among all communities in Central Equatoria. Our collective success depends entirely on our willingness to work together and welcome one another.”
