JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday endorsed an ambitious grassroots mobilization drive of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) as the party intensifies efforts to strengthen its presence across the country ahead of the December 2026 general elections.
The ambitious nationwide grassroots mobilization and reorganization strategy of the SPLM Youth League is aimed at bringing the party’s youth wing closer to young people across the country.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen the Youth League’s grassroots structures and place the energy, participation, and leadership of the country’s youth at the center of the SPLM’s electoral mobilization efforts.
The report was presented to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who also serves as SPLM chairman, by SPLM Youth League Chairperson Puok Bol Par on Thursday at the Government Secretariat.
The report outlined plans to expand and revitalize the Youth League’s structures across the country, from the national level down to states, counties, payams, and bomas.
It contains a nationwide grassroots engagement campaign, through which the Youth League will travel across the country to reorganize its structures, reconnect with communities, and strengthen direct engagement with young South Sudanese.
Speaking during the meeting, President Kiir endorsed the proposed program, directing the Youth League leadership to move with greater urgency in strengthening its grassroots presence and mobilizing young people ahead of the December elections.
“A strong youth movement must be built on unity, discipline, cohesion, and collective responsibility, urging the Youth League to remain united and work together as one movement,” Kiir said in a Facebook post shared by his Presidential Press Unit on Thursday.
Kiir called on the youth leadership to reach out to young people across the country, strengthen the party’s grassroots network, and mobilize the next generation of SPLM supporters.
“Reaffirmed his commitment to the empowerment and meaningful participation of South Sudan’s young people, recognizing them as a vital force in the country’s political, social, and economic future.”
For his part, SPLM Youth League Chairperson Puok Bol Par said the report represents a renewed effort to ensure that young people are not merely supporters of the party but active participants in its grassroots political structures and national campaign.
With the President’s endorsement, the Youth League now has a clear mandate to accelerate its nationwide mobilization drive, strengthen its organizational footprint, and take the SPLM’s message directly to young people in communities across South Sudan.
