JUBA, South Sudan — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has fired long-serving Cabinet Affairs Minister Martin Elia Lomuro and replaced him with Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth in a presidential decree announced on Wednesday.

Kiir also appointed former Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol as presidential adviser on international relations and foreign affairs, replacing Dr. Costello Garang Riiny. Ustaz Angelo Ngot Mayar was named caretaker governor of Warrap State, replacing Agoth.

Lomuro is one of South Sudan’s longest-serving ministers. He entered government in 2005 as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in the former Government of Southern Sudan, later serving as Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries before taking over Cabinet Affairs in 2008.

He was retained in the Cabinet Affairs position when Kiir dissolved the transitional government on September 22, 2026, and formed a caretaker administration.

Agoth previously served as South Sudan’s ambassador to Norway and held senior positions in the Office of the President, including Chief of State Protocol and Acting Chief Administrator. Kiir appointed him governor of Warrap State in June 2025.

Abdelbagi previously served as vice president responsible for the service cluster. He was moved to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in February 2025 and returned to the vice-presidency in February 2026. He left the position after the transitional government was dissolved in September.

The decrees did not state the reasons for the latest appointments.
