Kiir sacks Juba County Commissioner, names replacement

The decision, announced in a statement released by Central Equatoria State authorities on Wednesday, was made “pursuant to the provisions of Article 106A(2)(a) of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011 (as amended),” alongside relevant provisions of the Interpretation of Laws and General Provisions Act, 2006.

JUBA – President Salva Kiir has relieved Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon from his position and appointed Samuel Emiliano Wani Pitia as his replacement, according to a presidential decree issued through the Government of Central Equatoria State.

Under the decree, “Hon. Emmanuel Tete Ezbon” was formally relieved of his role as Commissioner of Juba County, while “Hon. Eng. Samuel Emiliano Wani Pitia” was appointed to take over the position with immediate effect.

The presidency, through the statement, acknowledged the service of the outgoing commissioner, noting that Kiir “wishes to express his profound gratitude to the outgoing Government official for his unwavering commitment and enormous contribution to the State during his tenure.” The president also extended “his best wishes to the newly appointed official in his new assignment.”

The decree takes effect from the date of its signing by the president.

The announcement was communicated on behalf of the president by Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, marking the latest administrative reshuffle at the county level within the state.

While no reasons were provided for Ezbon’s removal, such changes are typically framed within broader government efforts to reorganise local leadership structures under the transitional arrangement.

Juba County, which hosts the national capital, remains a politically and administratively significant area, often at the centre of governance and delivery challenges.

The appointment of Wani Pitia now places him at the helm of one of the country’s most strategic counties, where expectations around security, land management, and urban expansion continue to shape public discourse.
