JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Sunday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and girls, emphasizing their critical role in national development and peacebuilding.

In a message to mark International Women’s Day, Kiir pledged to intensify efforts to protect and empower women across the country.

“On this occasion, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit reiterates the government’s unwavering commitment to the protection and empowerment of women and girls throughout the country,” said a statement shared by his press unit on Sunday.

Kiir recognized the contributions of women to nation-building, describing them as a source of strength and inspiration.

“The women of South Sudan are a source of strength and inspiration for our nation. Their role in our families and communities is invaluable,” he said.

“The well-being of the women and children of South Sudan will always remain among our highest responsibilities.”

He said as the nation observed this important day, he reaffirmed his administration’s shared responsibility to build a country where every woman and girl is valued, protected, and empowered to reach her full potential.

“As the world marks International Women’s Day, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and determination of the women of South Sudan—women who continue to nurture families, strengthen communities, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of our nation.”

He stated that the celebration serves as a reminder to support and invest in women and girls, leading to lasting advantages for society, including stronger families, flourishing communities, and a brighter future for the next generation.

International Women’s Day, observed every year on March 8, serves as a global platform to honor women’s contributions across various fields, including social, economic, political, and cultural spheres.

This year’s theme, “𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞. 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬,” was complemented by the global call to action: “𝑮𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒂𝒊𝒏.”
