JUBA – Police in Aweil Centre County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested a 46-year-old man accused of killing his neighbour after alleging that the victim was involved in an adulterous relationship with his wife, local authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Ngor Jor Kuac, is currently being detained in connection with the death of Agiu Garang, who was reportedly killed late Monday night in Umoro village in the Aroyo area of Aweil Centre County.

According to officials, the incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. when the suspect allegedly ambushed the victim and attacked him. The victim died at the scene.

Aweil Centre County Commissioner Magdaline Alakiir Dut confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was immediately apprehended and remains in police custody while investigations continue.

“What happened in Umoro on Monday is that the suspect, Ngor Jor Kuac, killed his neighbour after accusing him of having a love affair with his wife. The victim died instantly,” Dut said.

She added that authorities have opened a murder case and that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

“The suspect is currently being detained, and the law will take its course as investigations are ongoing,” she said.

Commissioner Dut also called on residents to remain calm and allow the legal process to handle the matter, warning against acts of retaliation or mob justice.

“Nobody is above the law. People should avoid taking the law into their own hands. If there are disputes or suspicions, they should be reported to the authorities so they can be handled legally,” she said.

The commissioner further urged communities across the county to refrain from violence and resolve conflicts through lawful means.

“People should stay away from the habit of killing others randomly. Life is precious, and any grievances should be addressed through the justice system,” she cautioned.

In a separate incident reported in neighbouring Aweil North County, a 60-year-old man has also been detained after allegedly beating his daughter to death during a domestic dispute.

Aweil North County Commissioner Deng Kuel Kuel said the suspect is currently in custody after the incident, which resulted in the death of a senior secondary school student.

Authorities say investigations into both cases are ongoing as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings. Local officials have appealed to communities to respect the rule of law and seek peaceful solutions to disputes rather than resorting to violence.
