JUBA — The South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Tuesday appointed a new official spokesperson in a move aimed at strengthening the ministry’s public communication and engagement with the media.
Amb. Apuk Ayuel Mayen has been reappointed as the new official spokesperson of the ministry and will serve as the main point of contact for all media matters.
Amb. Apuk succeeds Agok Anyar Madut, who has been reassigned to another position within the Ministry as part of its ongoing institutional restructuring and administrative responsibilities.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the general public members, diplomatic corps, development partners, and media houses that Amb. Apuk Ayuen Mayen has assumed duties as the new spokesperson of the ministry,” the letter seen by Sudans Post said.
It said the new spokesperson will serve as the official channel for communicating the government’s foreign policy positions, diplomatic engagements, and other matters relating to South Sudan’s international relations.
“The Ministry looks forward to continued engagement with the media in providing timely and accurate information on South Sudan’s foreign policy, diplomatic relations, and international cooperation.”
The newly appointed spokesperson will be responsible for issuing official statements, responding to media inquiries, coordinating press briefings, and representing the ministry on matters concerning South Sudan’s foreign affairs.
Ambassador Apuk Ayuel Mayen is a South Sudanese career diplomat, writer, poet, and peace advocate.
She serves with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, where she has held senior positions, including spokesperson for the ministry.
She is a strong advocate for women’s inclusion in formal peace processes and political decision-making in South Sudan and the broader region.
Apuk has worked as a research associate with the Juba-based research organization, The Sudd Institute, focusing on governance, peacebuilding, and women’s roles in security transitions.
As a poet and author, she writes introspectively on theme-heavy subjects such as love, war, trauma, and societal transitions from conflict to peace.
Her published poetry collections include No More Betrayals and Kindred.
