JUBA – The National Security Service (NSS) has banned the illegal manufacture, sale, possession and wearing of its uniforms and security insignia, saying offenders will face arrest and prosecution.
In a public notice issued by the Internal Security Bureau (ISB), NSS spokesperson David John Kumuri said authorities have detected cases of individuals and private businesses producing and trading uniforms, camouflage patterns and related security items without authorisation.
“The Administration of the National Security Service – Internal Security Bureau wishes to issue a strict and final warning to the general public, business companies and owners, tailors, designers and others regarding unauthorised handling of official National Security Service attire,” the statement said.
It warned that the practice poses a serious risk to national security and public safety.
“This illegal practice poses a severe threat to public safety, national security and the integrity of the NSS,” it added.
The NSS said it is now strictly prohibiting the manufacture, sale, purchase, possession or wearing of its uniforms and related gear without written approval.
It also cautioned civilians against using NSS clothing or camouflage for fashion, filming or any personal use.
“Civilians and unauthorised persons possessing or wearing any part of the NSS uniform, tactical gear or camouflage, whether for daily wear, fashion, film production or security work, is strictly illegal,” the notice read.
According to the service, violators will be prosecuted under Section 91(c) of the NSS Act 2024 (as amended) and Section 77 of the South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008.
The NSS warned that anyone found breaking the directive will face immediate arrest and full legal action, including fines and imprisonment.
“The law will take its full course, and offenders will be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law,” it said.
The security service urged members of the public to report anyone involved in the illegal production or trade of security uniforms, saying such items can be used to impersonate officers and threaten public safety.
