Kuajok — Local authorities of Twic County in South Sudan’s Warrap State said on Wednesday that about 215 cattle stolen during raid week have been recovered from attackers.
Suspected armed youths from Unity State’s Mayom County attacked camps at Kuec-Amuool last week, killing three people, injuring six more, and raiding hundreds of animals.
Mr. John Mabior, acting commissioner of Twic County, Sudan’s Post on Wednesday said stolen cows were located and returned by Mayom County authorities.
“We applaud the demonstration of wise leadership shown by the authorities of Mayom County, as they have managed to track down the culprits, the youth who made it away with the cows that were driven away from the grasslands locally known as Toich last week and moved towards Mayom, so they retrieved them and handed them over to SSPDF forces on the ground there, who later called us to collect them,” said Mabior.
He praised his counterpart in Unity State’s Mayom County for locating and turning over the stolen animals to Warrap State-based SSPDF personnel.
“The fierce fight that took place last week left 3 people dead and 6 others dead as a result of that bad spirit that youth instill in them,” he said.
The commissioner encouraged the young people to cultivate a sense of harmony and peaceful neighborly cohabitation.
He claimed that retaliation and resource wars undermine peace initiatives and foster only hatred, which he claims is more demeaning.
He disclosed that there are now nine people dead from the attack that occurred last week.
According to him, hundreds of cows were raided in Gogrial East County after a similar event.
