This call was made following an increase in youth-perpetrated crimes such drug misuse, theft, and excessive alcohol consumption.
Speaking to Sudan’s post in an interview on Thursday, Major Gen. John Bak, State Police Commissioner, urged parents to play an active role in guiding their children to prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
“We are appealing to the community that when there is a group of criminals in their residential area, they have to report to police to enable police to rush to the scene of the crime and arrest them,” said Bak.
Bak believed a solid family foundation and parental guidance are essential in transforming young people into law-abiding adults.
He disclosed that the rate of crime has risen in the last few months of 2025, adding they have arrested more than 30 members of the gang group in December last year.
“The parents should advise their children to distance themselves from such crimes because they have a future ahead. If they go back to school, they will be our leaders later on, so there is a need for parents to educate their children to be good people.”
According to him, upholding law and order required shared responsivity from the police and parents in order to make the community safer for all residents.
In order to keep their kids from committing crimes, the commissioner asked parents to be watchful enough to know where their kids are and what they are doing.
