
JUBA-Seven people were killed in separate incidents across South Sudan during Christmas celebrations, according to the police.
Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson for the South Sudan National Police Service, said a 21-year-old male from the National Security Service was stabbed in the Referendum residential area on 24 December 2024 at around 7:00 pm, adding that the young man died in the hospital.
Koag said a case has been opened at the Western Police Division in Munuki, and the suspect has been arrested, and an investigation was underway.
“On 24 December at around 8:00 pm, a 36-year-old Ugandan foreign national was found dead at his workplace in the Nyakuron residential area. A case was opened at the Mauna Police Division,” Koang said in summary of the security report for the last 48 hours.
He disclosed that a 15-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man were seriously injured following a misunderstanding among youths in the Mangatein residential area on 24 December.
He also reported that on 25 December at around 6:00 am, an inmate was found dead in prison.
He added that the body of the inmate was taken to the military mortuary for a medical examination to determine the cause of death.
“On 25 December at around 12:00 pm, a male private from the SSPDF Division 7 committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Gumbo Shirkat. Our forensic team went to the crime scene and took the body to Juba Funeral Home for further examination.”
He revealed the police has arrested a suspect in connection with the stabbing to death of an 18-year-old male in the Nyakuron residential area on 25 December at around 4:00 pm.
“On 26 December at around 1:00 am, a 20-year-old male was shot dead by security personnel while pursuing suspects. Our forensic team went to the crime scene, and the body was taken to Juba Funeral Home for examination,” he said.
He said a case was opened at the Mauna Police Division, and the investigation is ongoing.”
The police spokesman reported that in Eastern Equatoria State, a 27-year-old man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ihemehejek on 25 December at around 4:00 pm.
He said the police and Monyomiji are pursuing the criminals by following their footprints.
He also revealed that regarding traffic contraventions, the traffic police registered 47 minor cases across the country, with no deaths reported during the last 48 hours of the Christmas celebration.
