JUBA — South Sudan National Police Services on Monday banned teenagers from attending events in nightclubs, bars, and hotels in Juba.
Gen. Abraham Manyuat Peter, Inspector General of Police, said the order aimed at protecting teenagers from exposure to environments and atmospheres that promote alcohol consumption and drug abuse.
“The Office of the Inspector General of Police, after conducting a thorough assessment and consultation, hereby issues this Letter of No Objection to the Entertainment Authority of South Sudan, allowing them to implement necessary regulatory measures and prohibit gatherings involving minors in the specified venues,” partly states the order.
Gen. Manyuat said the order aimed to protect youngsters from alcohol use, drug abuse, and immoral behavior.
“Preserve public order and safety, especially in areas frequently linked with criminal activity and social unrest,” Manyuat said.
He stated that this directive will assist parents in instilling discipline and upholding moral values for the well-being of their children.
“You are further encouraged to coordinate closely with the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) and local law enforcement authorities, the Juba City Authority, and the Juba County Authority in the enforcement, monitoring, and compliance of this directive,” he instructed.
The directives are also to ensure that all entertainment venues operate in accordance with existing national laws, child protection policies, and licensing conditions.
On Dec 31, 2024, the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) issued a firm warning to club owners against permitting teenagers to organize discos, parties, or social gatherings on their premises.
