JUBA – South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Monday Semaya K. Kumba, has invited Japanese investors to explore the untapped investment opportunities in the country.
Amb. Kumba made this call after returning to Juba at Juba International Airport from the Tokyo International Conference in Japan.
Yokohama hosted the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) from August 20 to 22, 2025.
The conference featured vibrant discussions on a wide range of development themes in Africa.
“I encourage him also to urge and convince and encourage the Japanese investors to come and invest in the Republic of South Sudan,” Kumba told media on Monday.
He emphasized some potential sectors for collaboration, including mining, trade, fisheries, agriculture, tourism, and transportation.
“We also agreed with my Japanese counterpart for us to continue working closely in terms of addressing issues related to the United Nations reform agenda.”
He stated that during important meetings on the sidelines, he had the opportunity to meet with his Rwandan counterpart, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda.
He explained that they discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and collaborating on regional issues of shared concern.
He added that they agreed to collaborate in advancing peace, security, and prosperity throughout the African continent, while also strengthening the friendship between South Sudan and Rwanda.
