JUBA— South Sudan’s government on Wednesday assured the international community that the situation in the country remained’safe and secure.”
The assurance was made by Amb. Apuk Ayuel Mayen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press conference in Juba on Wednesday.
This follows the tension created by the US travel advisory of security threats in the country.
The advisory order issued on Sunday by the US ordered all non-emergency staff in South Sudan to leave due to continued security threats.
It said armed conflict is ongoing and includes fighting between various political and ethnic groups.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan notes the recent travel advisories issued by some countries,” Ayuel said.
Ayuel claimed that the nation’s leadership had resolved the recent military conflict between the SSPDF and White Army in Nasir County, Upper Nile, which resulted from a misunderstanding during a normal military deployment.
“And I would like to reassure the international community that the situation in South Sudan remains calm and secure,” she said.
She urged allies in the area and abroad to condemn this illegal activity and back the nation’s attempts to maintain peace and stability.
“The government has taken all necessary actions to restore order, and the security forces are vigilant in their efforts to maintain peace throughout the nation,” Ms. Ayuel continued.
She said that South Sudan welcomes tourists, investors, and anybody else who wants to travel there, reinforcing President Kiir’s commitment to peace and stability.
“Thus, the ministry would like to reassure the public and anyone planning to travel to South Sudan that South Sudan is open and safe for visitors, investors, and development partners,” she assured.
“We encourage embassies accredited to South Sudan and countries to rely on official sources for accurate information and want to reiterate that South Sudan remains a welcoming and secure destination.”
“The government also appreciates the solidarity and condemnation already received from the international community. The ministry will provide further updates as necessary,” she concluded.
