Bor – South Sudan on Tuesday launched an initiative that aimed at unlocking the immense potential of Jonglei State’s tourism sector.
A delegation led by the Minister of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism launched the program in Bor town on Tuesday.
Speaking during the launch ceremony in Bor, Major General David Deng Adol, Jonglei State Director for Wildlife Conservation and Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is leading the initiative, which is intended to boost economic growth by promoting the tourism industry.
Deng highlighted role play by wildlife tourism in raising incomes, create jobs, and enhance local populations’ quality of life.
“They visit Jonglei state mostly parts of Bor county, also went to Ngalapicho and Gadian and they have gone to GPAA, they are launching the tourism activities in the two sisterly states of Jonglei and greater Pibor administrative area,” said Deng.
In order to preserve the nation’s abundant animal population and create a sustainable tourism sector, Deng urged the people of Jonglei State to stop poaching.
“This is a historic moment for Jonglei and Pibor, we have been blessed with incredible natural resources, and it is time to share them with the world. Wildlife tourism will not only bring economic benefits but also help to protect our environment and preserve our cultural heritage.”
According to him, insecurity is still a big issue impeding the growth of the travel and tourist industry.
In June 2024, President Salva Kiir urged security forces and the Ministry of Wildlife and its partners to prioritize the training and equipping of wildlife rangers to combat poaching and trafficking of wildlife.
