JUBA – South Sudan has announced that it has secured US$385,000 to fund the 10th East Africa Health Scientific Conference scheduled for 25th-27th June 2025.

The 10th East Africa Health and Scientific Conference (EAHSC) is expected to play a vital role in guiding policy, improving healthcare systems, and aligning the region’s health priorities with global health targets under the theme: “Addressing Health Priorities and Advancing the East African Region Health Agenda to Meet Global Health Targets.”

The three-day conference will bring together delegates, keynote speakers, researchers, and participants from across the East African Community (EAC) to share scientific research, discuss health challenges, and strengthen regional cooperation.

Representatives from all eight EAC Partner States are expected to attend, including Ministers of Health, Ministers of EAC Affairs, senior dignitaries from EAC organs, as well as academicians, students, health professionals, and international experts.

The event, approved during the 12th Ordinary Session of the EAC Council of Ministers in 2006, serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, in line with Article 118 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community and relevant provisions of the EAC Common Market Protocol.

The Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, emphasized the importance of a multi-sectoral approach to achieving regional health goals.

“To fight disease and achieve health, we have to tackle other fronts — food security, safe water, airborne and zoonotic diseases, environmental hazards, cross-border transmissions, traffic accidents, and the regulation of food and drugs entering the country. The list is long,” said Minister Rial.

Charles Saki Baknit, the chairperson of the 10th East Africa Health and Scientific Conference (EAHSC), noted that critical issues such as health infrastructure and funding will be key topics on the agenda.

“Most of the problems raised regarding health facilities and infrastructure in the East African Community will be addressed during this conference,” he said.
