JUBA — South Sudan has shortened its academic calendar by one month to ensure national examinations are completed ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.

The Council of Ministers endorsed adjustments to the education calendar in September, bringing forward primary and secondary examinations to November ahead of the vote.

According to the revised examination timetable, the Certificate of Primary Education examinations are scheduled for November 16–20, while the Certificate of Secondary Education examinations will run from November 23 to December 1.

Caretaker Minister of General Education and Instruction Kuyok Abol Kuyok has urged examination officials to ensure the tests are conducted professionally and fairly.

A total of 87,892 candidates are registered for the primary examinations, an increase of 3.5 percent from 2025. Another 53,301 candidates are expected to sit the secondary examinations, representing a 14 percent increase from last year.
