JUBA — South Sudan’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, and Metin Ergin, the Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan, held discussions on Thursday regarding trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The discussion centered on the existing legal framework that is pending for trade and investment between the two countries.

Atong Kuol stated that the Ministry of Trade and Industry is open to facilitating bilateral cooperation regarding imports and exports.

“South Sudan is a blessed country, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry is interested in exporting fish and Gambala Arabic to Turkey,” Atong said in a statement seen by Sudan’s Post on Thursday.

She disclosed that South Sudan is a resource-rich country, highlighting the ministry’s interest in exporting fish and gum Arabic to Türkiye.

For his part, Ambassador Metin highlighted the Turkish government’s commitment to enhancing trade and investment relations while emphasizing Türkiye’s support for capacity-building initiatives within the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

“Türkiye is one of South Sudan’s biggest supporters in terms of scholarships and medical assistance,” Metin said.

He said they discussed the significance of developing cargo plane transportation systems to alleviate trading challenges, noting that Turkish Airlines is operational in South Sudan.

Meanwhile, Kawaja Kau Madol, the undersecretary, expressed concerns regarding the quality of goods and indicated that the Ministry of Trade and Industry is ready to review the existing legal framework between the two countries.
