In an official statement dated May 20, 2026, the committee confirmed that the elections were conducted in line with the association’s constitution and electoral guidelines, describing the process as “transparent, free, and fair.”
According to the statement issued by the HEC Chairperson, Stephen Dhuol Mabior Garang, a total of 106 students were registered to vote during the electoral exercise. Of the registered voters, 102 ballots were cast, with 100 declared valid and 2 invalid.
Following the final tally of valid votes, Mr Stephen Puok Malual emerged victorious in the race for the position of Chairperson after securing 55 votes. The committee subsequently declared him the duly elected Chairperson of SSSASU for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The committee also announced that Mr Daniel Pasquale Kamilo was elected as the new General Secretary of the association for the same academic year.
“The High Electoral Committee extends its sincere appreciation to all candidates, polling agents, students, and stakeholders who participated in ensuring a peaceful and democratic election process,” the statement read.
The committee further congratulated the newly elected leaders and wished them success in serving the South Sudanese students’ community at Suez University “with dedication, unity, and responsibility.”
As part of the transition process, the HEC granted the elected leadership seven days to prepare for the official handover.
The South Sudanese Students’ Association at Suez University is one of the student bodies representing South Sudanese students studying abroad, and its leadership elections are viewed as an important process for strengthening student representation, unity, and welfare within the academic community.
