JUBA — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Former Detainees (SPLM-FD) has expelled one of its members, Isaiah Hakim Garang, following remarks he allegedly made criticizing Vice President for Youth and Gender Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior.

The decision followed a statement issued by Hakim, the FDs’ parliamentary whip, on Monday in which he distanced the Former Detainees from recent remarks by Vice President Nyandeng, accusing her of inciting young people for political purposes.

In a letter issued on 8 September, the SPLM-FD said Hakim was revoked for membership, claiming his recent statement violated the SPLM-FD code of conduct and internal rules.

The group, comprising Gier Chuang Aluong, Madut Biar Yel, and Dr. Majak D’Agoot, said the decision followed what it described as a “thorough review of recent violations of the SPLM-FD code of conduct and internal rules.”

“The SPLM-FD leadership unanimously determined that your actions did not meet the standards expected of members,” the letter said.

The group distanced itself from Hakim’s recent statement, saying he had spoken publicly on its behalf without authorization from the Former Detainees.

“You spoke publicly on behalf of the SPLM-FD without authorization or the consent of its members and leadership.”

The senior members accused Hakim of displaying behavior that did not meet the organization’s standards.

“You demonstrated conduct inconsistent with the respect, discipline, and accountability expected of SPLM-FD members’ moral standards,” it said.

“With immediate effect, you are no longer authorized to act in the name of the SPLM-FD, represent the organization in any official or public capacity, or present yourself as a member.”

The group said the government institutions where Hakim previously represented the SPLM-FD, including the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, “shall be notified of your change in status.”

The group ordered him to return materials belonging to the group.

“Please promptly and orderly return all SPLM-FD resources, records, or government materials currently in your possession to relevant government departments.”
