JUBA — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Tuesday formed a 13-member committee to investigate the cause of the recent fire incident at the secretariat.

The fire broke out around 12:47 PM on Saturday and burned part of the prefabricated offices, destroying some documents.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.

Dr. James Wani Igga, SPLM First Deputy Chairperson and Secretary General, set up a Fact-Finding Committee led by Jashinto Pakon, SPLM National Secretary for Administration and Finance.

The committee is deputized by Major Michael Achol, SPLM National Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization, and Organization, and Jimmy Atilio, Acting Secretary for Culture, Information, and Communication Rapporteur and Spokesperson.

It also includes 10 members from heads of law enforcement agencies and relevant security organs.

The committee is tasked to find out the cause of the fire incident and assess the damage caused to the property.

“The SPLM senior leadership established the Fact Finding and Investigation Committee to find the cause of the fire outbreak that engulfed part of the SPLM National Secretariat, causing serious damage on Saturday, 10th May 2025, at around 12:47 midday,” the order seen by Sudan’s Post read.

They are expected to submit their reports and recommendations to the leadership within seven days with effect from the day of the formation of the committee.
