JUBA – The Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) National Youth League, Comrade Daniel Abocha Ali, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in the Munuki residential area in Juba.

The attack, described as “barbaric and cowardly” by the SPLM National Youth League in the statement, occurred on the evening of Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the SPLM National Youth League, the incident happened at approximately 8:30 PM as Daniel was returning home from the city centre.

Two armed assailants, dressed in black, it says, ambushed Abocha’s vehicle and opened fire. The first shot missed, while the second struck the vehicle near the driver’s side. Mr. Abocha reportedly emerged unharmed.

The SPLM National Youth League condemned the attack and called on South Sudan’s security agencies to conduct an urgent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“This unprovoked attack is not just an assault on an individual but a direct affront to the values of peace, democracy, and youth leadership that the SPLM and its National Youth League stand for,” the statement read.

The organisation also urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and united against forces seeking to destabilise the nation’s fragile progress toward peace.
