Tragedy in Koch County as truck driver runs over 13-year-old girl

Local authorities and eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Friday last week when the young girl was struck by a truck under circumstances that are still being investigated by police.

BENTIU — Koch County of Unity State, an oil-rich region, has been left in shock following a tragic road accident in which a 13-year-old girl was killed after being run over by a truck belonging to the Aloni Naoh construction company.

Local authorities and eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Friday last week when the young girl was struck by a truck under circumstances that are still being investigated by police.

The truck involved is reported to belong to Aloni Naoh Construction Company, which is currently engaged in the construction of Leer airstrip.

The Director of Highway Traffic Police in Unity State, Major Domai Dak Kai, confirmed to Sudans Post on Friday the incident in which a 13-year-old girl was killed.

Dak said the truck driver has been taken into custody for questioning as part of ongoing investigations into the cause of the accident.

“The incident occurred on Friday involving a vehicle belonging to Aloni Naoh Construction Company, which is constructing the Leer airstrip. The truck driver was arrested, and he was transferred to Koch County headquarters yesterday,” he said.

Dak urged motorists to exercise caution and respect road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives.

“The incident occurred on Friday when there was a car company, Aloni Naoh Construction Company, that constructed the Leer airstrip, and the driver of the truck was arrested, and his driver was taken to Koch County headquarters yesterday.”

He said police have launched an investigation to establish the exact circumstances leading to the accident, including whether speed, negligence, or mechanical failure played a role.

“The driver was arrested in Mayiendit County in the identified Kuok Village under Thaker Payam, and he was brought back to Mirmir after he ran away when he knew that he did the incident that led to the death of a 13-year-old girl.

Dak said this is the first such incident recorded this year in Mirmir Payam, noting that no similar cases were reported in the area last year.
