KUAJOK – A quarrel between two women in Twic County of Warrap State turned fatal on Monday, leaving one woman dead and another in police custody, authorities said.

Police Inspector for Wunrok Payam, Atem Deng, confirmed to Sudans Post on Tuesday that the incident occurred in Wunrok Payam when the two women engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a physical fight.

“It is something that shocked residents here because no one expected a simple misunderstanding to end in death,” Deng said, adding that the suspect is being detained at Wunrok Police Station for interrogation.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Nhom-acot Aguek Majok, was allegedly pushed to the ground by the suspect, Apiiny Riing, during the scuffle.

“The victim fell and sustained injuries to her hand. When residents rushed to separate them, Nhom-acot did not get up. She was taken to a nearby health facility, but she was pronounced dead on arrival,” Deng narrated.

Mr. Deng appealed for calm and urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue. “We are doing everything possible to contain the situation and prevent it from escalating into a wider community issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, the officer in charge of the Wunrok Primary Health Care Centre, Deng Dut Akol, said a medical examination showed no severe injuries that could have caused the death.

“We didn’t find any serious wounds—only a minor cut on her hand—but she passed away immediately,” Akol said.

Local authorities say they are working to de-escalate tensions after some relatives of the deceased reportedly marched to the police station where the suspect is being held.

Incidents of mob justice and community retaliation remain sporadic in parts of Warrap State, with legal experts attributing them to limited public awareness of the justice system and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms.
