JUBA – Authorities in South Sudan’s Lakes State have announced that a car accident in Rumbek Central County on September 6 resulted in one death and 14 injuries. The incident occurred when a vehicle overturned.
Police spokesman Elijah Mabor Makuac told Sudans Post yesterday that the incident occurred at around 2:00 PM when a vehicle traveling from Juba to Wau with 14 passengers overturned and injured all people on board at Rak-majok village under Matangai Payam of Rumbek central county.
He said when the police intervened to evacuate the injured to the hospital.
“One person among the 14 passengers succumbed to the wound he sustained in Rumbek State hospital, and the rest of the victims are currently receiving treatment in Rumbek State hospital,” Makuac said.
Doctor Terran Madit Terran confirmed that they had received some casualties in the state hospital due to road traffic accidents from Juba to Aweil.
He said some accidents happened in Lakes State from Rumbek to Wau roads whereby we received 14 of the casualties.
“We rushed immediately as a medical team of Rumbek State hospital, more specially the surgical team, to work on them. Out of 14 injured, 3 people were categorized as great injuries, most probably they had leg injuries, and the rest of the patients were with minor injuries,” he said.
He said on that very day because the incident happened at around 3:00 PM and at 8:00 PM one of the patients passed away and this is a patient that had a head injury and the rest of the two patients were actually on a critical condition on that day.
He said they were monitoring them and their medications and on the following day we received some instructions because we were having some communication with the State government whereby the rest of the patients need to be transferred to where they are supposed to go.
“So, most of them went to Wau by facilitation of the government. Only, we remain with one patient with head injury and fracture at the right arm,” he said.
“This is the only we have in Rumbek State hospital, but the rest of the patients went to Wau including the body was taken by the relatives who came after 2 days we handed the body to the relatives,” he said.
