JUBA – A 22-year-old man was shot with an arrow and died during a family dispute which also left three others injured last Thursday in Mvolo County in Western Equatoria State, Radio Tamazuj reports.

The melee erupted when the relatives of a 20-year-old woman went to their in-laws to ascertain the cause of her death.

Lexson Doboro the police’s crime officer in Mvolo County told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the incident happened in Gullu Boma after the death of a lady who succumbed to illness.

“It was on 13 January at around 11 am in Gullu Boma, there is a girl who died after being sick for two days. The relatives of the girl went to ask about the cause of her death and it ended up in a fight,” the policeman explained. “One person stood up and shot an arrow which landed on one of the deceased girl’s male relatives and in the process of removing the arrow from his chest, he died on spot.”

Doboro said the man who was shot dead was the brother of the lady who had died.

“At the end, they found out the cause of the death is that she was bewitched and when her relatives requested to take their sister’s children, this is where the dispute started,” Doboro narrated. “Another person removed a bow and arrow and shot it at the 22-year-old boy who is a university graduate and he died on spot.”

He appealed to the community to distance themselves from such acts because death is a natural thing and people should resolve enduing matters peacefully without using violence.

Criminal gang rapes 2 women in Mundri West

The police in Mundri West, Western Equatoria State, confirmed that they are handling a double rape case that occurred in the Hai-Kono residential area in the outskirts of the town on Wednesday last week.

According to Major Alex Gbatala Brown, the crime officer at Mundri police headquarters, the two ladies, aged 18 and 19, were attacked and raped by a gang at 11:00 pm in their home.

“At night criminals attacked those ladies at their home and raped them.  One is 18 years old and the other one 19,” Major Gbatala said. “At around 11 pm, 8 men came to attack the women. One of the ladies was raped by 8 people and she was brought to us here. The rapists are not known because they covered their faces.”

He appealed to parents and the community leaders in greater Mundri to sensitize the population so that such criminality is checked.

“There are bad things happening here in the county. Our ladies, youth, and the community let us take care of our ladies; let us talk to our people. Let those things not happen because they tarnish the image of the community. Let the chiefs advise our people.”
