10 killed as gunmen ambush boat heading to Leer County

At least ten people were killed on Wednesday after a boat heading to Unity State was ambushed by unknown armed men at Gondokoro of Central Equatoria state, according to a statement by members of Council of States.

JUBA, FEBRUARY 23rd 2023 (SUDANS POST) – At least ten people were killed on Wednesday after a boat heading to Unity State was ambushed by unknown armed men at Gondokoro of Central Equatoria state, according to a statement by members of Council of States.

In the statement, lawmakers who mostly represent Unity State in the Council of States said the boad was ambushed on the afternoon of Wednesday while heading with goods from Juba to Adok Port in Leer County of Unity State and resulted in the killing of ten people.

On 22nd/02/2023, a boat was ambushed along the riverbank of Gondokoro by unknown gunmen. The boat was carrying commercial items to Adok-port. Ten people were killed and one survived,” they said in the statement extended to Sudans Post.

The statement condemned the attack and called on the transitional government in Juba to carry out investigation and bring to account those behind the attack.

“As people representatives in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) and the Council of States (CS), we condemn this heinous, barbaric and cowardice act in the strongest term possible,” they said in the statement.

“… and urging the R-TGONU, specifically the security apparatus to protect the lives of civilians and their properties by establishing a special force to dismantle the illegal checkpoints along the river sides,” they added.
