Lakes State police spokesperson, Major Elijah Mabor [Sudans Post]
JUBA – Authorities in Lakes State reported that a 17-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself after allegedly being beaten by her brother in Warcuei village, Mathiangkok Payam of Rumbek East County, Lakes State.

Police spokesperson Major Elijah Mabor confirmed the incident to Sudans Post today, stating that the tragedy occurred at a location known as Warcuei in the Mathiangkok area, where the teenage girl took her own life by hanging at approximately 8:30 PM yesterday.

According to Major Mabor, the police are actively investigating the case to ascertain the circumstances leading to her decision. Some sources suggest she was subjected to physical abuse by her brother.

“Police are still investigating that case to identify what caused the decision,” he told Sudans Post. “Others said she was beaten by her brother. What caused her beating is something to be investigated and the police is doing their job well.”

Mabor stated that the brother of the deceased, a 17-year-old girl, is currently undergoing questioning at the police station in the Mathiangkok area.

He may subsequently be transferred to Pacong Payam police station, where formal investigations will be conducted.
